CARE & MAINTENANCE
HOW TO KEEP YOUR ACACIA AT ITS BEST
Acacia is durable enough for daily kitchen use but like all hardwood it benefits from simple, consistent care. Here's what we tell every customer who buys an Acacia countertop from us.
Wipe with a damp cloth after use never leave standing water on the surface.
If oiled re-oil every 3 to 6 months with food-grade mineral oil to keep the grain sealed and fed.
For deeper protection apply a beeswax and mineral oil blend twice a year.
Light sand and re-oil every few years Acacia responds to refinishing better than almost any other wood.
The more you care for it the better it looks. That's the magic of real wood.
FINISH OPTIONS
CHOOSE HOW YOUR ACACIA IS FINISHED
Every countertop leaves our Sarasota workshop sealed and ready to install. You choose the finish that fits how you live in your kitchen.
Recommended POLYURETHANE Full waterproof seal with a glossy or satin sheen. The most protective finish creates a hard barrier between the wood and everything else. Best for: bar tops, around sinks, high-moisture areas.
HARDWAX OIL Water-resistant matte finish that soaks into the wood rather than sitting on top. Low maintenance, durable, and the most popular choice for Florida kitchens. Best for: everyday kitchen use.
NATURAL OIL Food-safe mineral oil the most natural finish available. Enhances the grain, easy to reapply at home, and safe for food contact. Best for: active kitchen countertops.
Not sure which finish is right for you? Call us or visit our Sarasota showroom we'll show you all three in person.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Have a question about Acacia specifically? Call us directly.
Is Acacia good for kitchen countertops?
Yes Acacia is one of the best woods for kitchen countertops. It is naturally hard, dense, and handles daily cutting, heat, and moisture better than most other hardwoods. It is our most requested species for a reason.
Does Acacia scratch easily?
No, Acacia resists scratches and dents from normal kitchen use. We still recommend using a cutting board for heavy chopping to preserve the finish long term.
How often do I need to oil my Acacia countertop? (IF OILED)
If oiled, every 3 to 6 months with food-safe mineral oil. It takes about 20 minutes and makes a visible difference. If your countertop starts to look dry or lighter in color that is your sign to re-oil.
Is Acacia waterproof?
If your Acacia is sealed with polyurethane, it’s water-resistant. Wipe spills immediately and never leave standing water on the surface. With a proper finish applied at our Sarasota workshop, it handles Florida kitchens very well.
Can I get a sink cutout in my Acacia countertop?
Yes — we do all sink cutouts in-house at our Sarasota workshop. Just include your sink dimensions when you request a quote and we handle everything. No extra contractors needed.
How long will an Acacia countertop last?
With proper care — decades. Acacia is one of the most durable kitchen countertop materials available. Unlike laminate or tile it can be sanded and refinished if it ever shows wear. It genuinely gets better with age.
