FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Everything you need to know about butcher block countertops before you order. Still have questions? Call us directly.
What is butcher block and is it good for kitchen countertops?
Butcher block is a countertop made from strips of solid hardwood bonded together. It is warm, natural, durable, and one of the most timeless surfaces you can put in a kitchen. With proper sealing it handles daily use beautifully and gets better looking with age.
Which wood species is best for my kitchen?
It depends on your style and how you use your kitchen. Acacia is our most popular — it is hard, dramatic, and handles heavy use well. Walnut is timeless and elegant. Blonde Wood is light and modern.Visit our showroom and we will help you choose the right one for your space.
How do I maintain a butcher block countertop?
It is simpler than most people think. Oil-finished countertops need re-oiling every 3 to 6 months with food-safe mineral oil. Lacquered surfaces just need wiping down with a damp cloth. Avoid leaving standing water for extended periods and your countertop will last decades.
Is butcher block waterproof?
Solid hardwood is water-resistant but not waterproof when sealed with polyurethane. We apply the finish at our Sarasota workshop to handle Florida humidity and occasional spills. Properly maintained butcher block will not warp or swell under normal kitchen conditions.
Can you cut to custom dimensions?
Yes, all our butcher block countertops are available in custom sizes. We cut in-house at our Sarasota workshop. Simply tell us your dimensions when requesting a quote and we handle everything from there. Standard sizes are also available for faster turnaround.
What finish options do you offer?
We offer four finish options: Natural Oil, Beeswax, Polyurethane, and Epoxy. Unfinished is also available if you prefer to apply your own finish.
Do you do sink cutouts and custom edges?
Yes. We handle sink cutouts, custom edge profiles, and any special fabrication requirements in-house at our Sarasota workshop. Just include the details when you request your quote and we will build it to your exact specification.
How long does it take to get my order?
Standard sizes are available for same-day pickup at our Sarasota location. Custom cut orders typically take 3 to 7 business days depending on species and dimensions. We confirm your lead time when your quote is approved no surprises.
Is butcher block good for Florida's climate?
Yes, with the right finish. Florida humidity can affect untreated wood but a properly sealed butcher block countertop is perfectly suited to Florida homes.
Can I see samples before ordering?
Yes. Visit our Sarasota showroom Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm. We have samples of all five wood species available to see and feel in person. No appointment needed just come in and our team will walk you through every option.
